As we are your local Volkswagen dealer, Mandurah VW like to keep their clients informed on all the latest VW developments. There are credible reports that Volkswagen is working on an all electric family liftback vehicle that could be available in the next five years. Apparently, the process is in the advanced stages, and a presentation has been leaked to the motoring press. Let’s take a closer look at what we know so far and what the implications could be.
The I.D. Electric Cars:
The new all electric cars are being referred to as an addition to the I.D. family series. The leak appears to show that Volkswagen is planning to release two additional models, the I.D. Lounge and the I.D. Aero, within the next five years. Those familiar with the I.D. series will know that we’ve already seen the I.D. Crozz and the I.D. Buzz concept cars. These two vehicles are actually going into full production at some point in the near future. However, now it seems that there will be a pair of new cars to join them. These will be EV cars, it seems that they are still in the development stage, but a release sometime between 2020 and 2022 could be on the cards.
The Targeted Markets:
Amongst the new Volkswagen I.D. models, it appears that certain markets will be targeted specifically. Initially, at least, the I.D. family of cars will be exclusively released in the US and Chinese markets. However, the production versions of the I.D. Crozz and the I.D. hatch will be released in Europe and not the US. The I.D. Buzz (an EV people mover) has a yet to be determined a designation, so we have no idea where that car will be released. This all seems very confusing, but we are at a very early stage, and things will change significantly. It’s likely that the I.D. family of cars will be available everywhere eventually if this EV series catches the imagination of the public.
The I.D. Lounge and Aero:
At the moment we have no idea what form the I.D. Lounge will take, but there is speculation that it will be a luxury crossover model. As such, it would be better suited to the North American and/or Chinese market. The I.D. Aero looks like a sporty liftback, that may be an EV alternative to new Volkswagen Arteon.
